Sanitize For Life

Sanitize For Life

This campaign focuses on the impact of sanitation and its effects, especially on groundwater. Research shows that many underfunded schools in Sierra Leone still practice open defecations. In some settings, pit latrines and septic tanks are located too close to ground water source which potentially creates major health risks for students, teachers, and their families. This lack of safely managed sanitation services creates a profound influence on public health, environmental integrity, indignity, and inconvenience. The connection between sanitation and groundwater cannot be overlooked, because even though underground water is invisible, its visible effect is seen especially in deprived communities. The solution is access to safely managed sanitation in combination with safely managed drinking water services and good hygiene practices. Therefore, our initiative is to create safe sustainable sanitation systems starting with community schools.
